The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) defines pediatric dentistry as an age-defined specialty that provides primary and comprehensive preventative and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children. It is recommended that children come to the dentist for their first check-up when their first tooth appears and no later than their first birthday to prevent dental problems.
