Patient FAQs

How often should you visit the dentist for cleanings and check-ups?

At Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we recommend coming in for a cleaning every 6 months or more depending on your unique oral hygiene needs.

What can I do at home to prevent tooth decay and gum disease?

Brushing twice a day and flossing/cleaning between the teeth daily is the first step in ensuring good oral hygiene. When you come in for your check-ups at Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we would be happy to discuss a good oral health routine to minimize the risk of gingivitis and tooth decay.

How can I improve my smile?

At Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer many types of dental procedures that can help you regain your confident smile. To improve your smile, we may recommend dental services such as:

  • Teeth Whitening
  • Bonding
  • Porcelain Veneers
  • Porcelain Crowns
  • Implants Crowns & Implant Dentures

What is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is caused by bacteria build up around the tooth that gets into the gums. It can cause puffy, red gums that are more likely to bleed while brushing or flossing. To prevent gingivitis, brush and floss/clean between the teeth every day and talk to the dentist at your check-ups for things you could be doing better.

What is periodontal disease?

Did you know that 4 out of 5 people suffer from periodontal disease and don't know? Periodontal Disease, also known as Gum Disease, starts when plaque, bacteria, food and saliva get left on the teeth and gums. Everything that is left behind slowly starts to hurt your teeth, gums, and even bone in some instances. Brushing and flossing are a great way to ensure nothing gets left on your teeth! A few symptoms of gum disease are:

  • Bad Breath
  • Gum Recession
  • Sensitivity
  • Tooth Pain
  • New Gaps Between Teeth
  • Tooth Loss

How often should I change my toothbrush?

We recommend that you change out your toothbrush every three months, sooner if your toothbrush is worn. If you get sick, we recommend that you change out your toothbrush as soon as you are feeling better.

What is a comprehensive treatment plan?

At Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer comprehensive treatment plans. This means that during your regular visit, we examine your entire mouth to evaluate your overall oral health. This allows us to recommend treatment that will have long-term benefits.
