Bridges are dental appliances that replace a section of missing teeth. Gaps left by missing teeth can often cause the remaining teeth to shift into the empty space. This causes an imbalance that can lead to a bad bite, gum disease, poor digestion and joint disorders. The purpose of a bridge is to span the gap left by missing teeth. At Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we custom make each bridge for a more natural smile.
Crowns are used to restore a tooth’s function for different treatment needs. For example, when a cavity is too large for a filling it can be restored with a crown which will preserve the strength and function of the tooth. Crowns are used to repair fractured teeth, protect teeth that have had root canal therapy or improve the color and/or shape of a tooth to improve the smile. There are other reasons why we may recommend placing a crown, such as:
- Previous Root Canal Therapy - tooth without crown
- New decay below crown
- Fractured filling
- Wear from grinding teeth
A crown is used to cover implants! Crowns have a very natural look and can be fit in seamlessly with your other teeth.
As with all oral health treatment, it is important to care for your dental work by brushing at least 2 times a day and cleaning in between your teeth daily. To clean a dental bridge, we recommend a water pick to use before going to sleep.
